Bacteriostatic Preservation & Peptide Reconstitution
Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is sterile water for injection containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth following needle insertion, preserving sterility of a multi-use vial across multiple draws for up to 28 days when stored at 2–8°C. At 0.9% concentration, benzyl alcohol disrupts bacterial cell membrane integrity and inhibits membrane-associated enzyme systems without causing peptide denaturation. This makes it the standard reconstitution vehicle for all lyophilized research peptides including Retatrutide, Tirzepatide, Semaglutide, BPC-157, TB-500, IGF-1 LR3, CJC-1295/Ipamorelin, and SNAP-8. Regular sterile water has no preservative and is considered single-use only after puncture. pH is adjusted to 5.0–7.0, compatible with all standard research peptides.
Research Highlights
Required for All Lyophilized Peptides
Every lyophilized research peptide — Retatrutide, Tirzepatide, Semaglutide, BPC-157, TB-500, Epithalon, GHK-Cu, SNAP-8, IGF-1 LR3, CJC-1295/Ipamorelin — requires reconstitution with bacteriostatic water before use. One 10mL vial is typically sufficient for 2–4 peptide reconstitutions depending on target concentration.
28-Day Multi-Draw Sterility
The 0.9% benzyl alcohol preservative inhibits bacterial growth following needle puncture, allowing safe multiple draws from a single vial for up to 28 days when stored refrigerated. Without this preservative, each reconstituted vial would need to be used within 24 hours — impractical for any multi-day research protocol.
Peptide Compatibility
Benzyl alcohol at 0.9% is compatible with all standard research peptides. It does not cause peptide precipitation or denaturation at this concentration. pH 5.0–7.0 is within the physiological stability range for all listed research peptides including GLP-1 analogs, structural peptides, and copper complexes.
